Use your environment
Remember, use your environment as you would in real life as your modern arsenal and the ballistics it packs can punch through a lot of the cover you would normally use. So think twice about what you use for cover and be sure to use hardcover as high ballistic weapons and shoot through small weak material like wood, plaster, or sheet metal. Same goes for when assaulting, see an enemy run up stairs, and know he’s hiding in the corner? Try shooting up through the floor to kill him or distract him while your buddy goes up and finishes him.
Customize your weapons
You will be able to fully customize your weapon load out to your play style. You can fully customize your primary and secondary weapons, add attachments such as sights, scopes, hand grips, or grenade launchers. Customize your perks to your liking. If you are a stealthy guy who loves to pull out a silent knife kill whenever possible, customize your perks with UAV Jammer so you don’t show up on Enemy UAV Radar, or add a suppressor to your weapon so you don’t show up when you fire.
Use your support by staying alive
If you stay alive long enough to get 3 kills, 5 kills, and 7 kills without dying, then you’ll be able to utilize some helpful support from the sky. For example kill 3 enemies without dying and call up 30 seconds of UAV Recon (radar) for your entire team, continue your warpath to 5 kills to get the ability to call in an Airstrike anywhere on the map you choose, or even 7 kills without dying to radio in Helicopter support which will fly overhead taking down any enemies it sees and allowing some valuable distraction for you and your squad.
Learn the battlefield
You’re going to have 16 Multiplayer Maps at launch, putting you in the middle of the action all over the world, and be sure to take the time to learn them so you can communicate and move smoothly as a team. Notice key markings on buildings so you can call it out to your team mates and work better as a squad. For example, if you see an enemy run into a small cafe, be sure to alert your team there’s enemies in the small cafe to the north.
Communicate
Use your voice communication to call out enemy positions and direction to keep your entire team informed as what’s happening around them. Communication is key to victory, so watch your kill cam, which shows the perspective of the killer when he killed you so that you can possibly call out key sniper positions or where the enemy is holding up.
Silent kills mean more kills
Remember, if you come up behind several unsuspecting enemies, don’t give away the element of surprise by opening fire and alerting the rest, use your Knife melee to get some swift and silent kills so you don’t make a noise and don’t show up on radar.
Use your perks wisely
You’ll have Perks in multiplayer, which allow you special abilities, use them wisely based on the gametype or map your on. You can save up to 5 custom classes at a time, which you should use to safe a specialized class for each major gametype you play. For example if you’re playing Team Deathmatch where kills mean victory then maybe take the Bandolier perk so you have extra ammo, or Stopping Power for increased bullet damage. If you’re playing Domination or an objective gametype, maybe take Extreme Conditioning which gives you extended sprint so you can get the objective faster than the enemy.
Always stay moving and in cover
Use your ability to Sprint to transverse wide open spaces and get from cover to cover, never stay in one spot too long especially after a kill because all enemies will be converging on your spot. Sprint is limited as you’ll get tired, so use it wisely and to get out of a sticky situation.
Explosives are your friend
Taking an M203 or Claymores out to the fight with you can make a huge difference in Objective gametypes. If playing Headquarters, once you’ve taken over the HQ and are defending, set up Claymores around the major doorways to do the work for you while you watch your six. Or put some M203 rounds down range onto an objective to keep enemies from camping on it and capturing it.

Are you answering the call of duty? You’re on your own for single player, which is a wild ride where you won’t need our help. But multiplayer Call of Duty 4 can be brutal. Here are a few of the tricks that separate the vets from the rookies.
1) Faster, carbine, kill, kill!
The little bar graphs for each weapon don’t tell the full story. For instance, the M4 Carbine might not have stats as good as the starting weapons, but its fully automatic fire is an invaluable asset. Believe it or not, the wasted milliseconds between the M16′s burst fire can make all the difference. Similarly, the R700 sniper rifle might look like a no-brainer over the previous guns, but consider that it’s a bolt-action weapon with a 4-round clip. You better make every shot count.
2) You can run, but you can’t hide
Walls, schmalls! Guns can punch through solid materials in Call of Duty 4, particularly the LMGs fired by someone with the Deep Impact perk. Don’t forget to shoot through walls, particularly on game modes where players have to defend a fixed position. Soften up a defended HQ or Domination site from the outside. And even if you’re a small-caliber class, you can use fixed gun emplacements to take out snipers who think they’ve ducked behind cover. Backlot, for instance, is a great map for sweeping through walls with its fixed guns.
3) Ditch the pistol
Once you get good enough to stay alive over the course of a few kills, regularly earning UAVs and air strikes, ammo for your primary weapon will be a limiting factor. Keep in mind you can swap out your pistol to pick up a killed enemy’s primary weapon. If you get in the habit of doing this early on, you might never need the Bandolier (extra ammo) or Overkill (start with two primary weapons) perks.
4) In the boom boom room
Call of Duty 4 might seem too fast for C4, which has to be planted and detonated. But it’s an invaluable part of all the non-deathmatch game modes. For instance, drop your C4 satchels into the headquarters area when you’re defending, and then hang back someplace to watch the bad guys rush in. Remember that a quick double-tap of the use key will detonate the C4 if you have your weapon equipped. If you plan on doing this regularly, don’t forget the Sonic Boom perk for extra damage in a larger blast radius.
5) This is my mouse, there are many like it!
Consider switching the controls for your frag grenades and your special grenades, particularly if you take the Special Grenade perk and therefore have the flashbangs and stun grenades to spare. Using your middle mouse button to lead with one of these is a great way to round a corner or enter a room. Also, if you have the buttons to spare, put the melee attack on your mouse. The times you’ll need melee (“Oh @!&*, I’m out of ammo!”) are the times you can’t afford to fumble for a key on your keyboard.
